A filter should be sized for the system flow rather than selected only by connection size. It also needs enough access for cleaning, flushing and inspection during the season.

Where several filtration stages are needed, their order should reflect what each stage is intended to remove. Pressure loss across dirty filters should also be considered in the hydraulic design.

Ask for the current filtration rating, allowable flow and pressure data for the exact model before purchase. These values should come from the manufacturer or supplier datasheet, not from a generic website assumption.
